Hello beta testers,

We are excited to share that we are getting ready to push the latest search improvements and UI enhancements to your sandbox communities soon.

This article provides an overview of the changes we are making and how we are making this available to you.

When will we release

Tuesday April 1st (no joke ;-)) we are pushing the latest search improvements to the ‘enhanced search experience’ beta in your sandbox communities.

It may take a few days for the changes to appear, this is due to the fact that this roll-out is done in smaller batches and per region. By Friday April 4 all sandbox communities will have access to the new search experience. If this isn’t the case, please contact us.

When the roll-out to your sandbox communities is finished we will get ready to push the changes to your production communities.

What will change

Here’s a quick reminder on the two major improvements we are making as part of this release:

  • Relevance-Based Results: Search results will be ranked purely by relevance, ensuring that all federated and community content is treated equally.
  • New UI Enhancements: A refreshed design for the search results page to improve readability, consistency, and usability, helping members find the right results faster.

How to see and test the changes

The latest improvements will be pushed under the ‘Enhanced search experience’ beta. You will need to enable this beta to see and test the new experience:

  1. Login to your sandbox admin environment
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Open Beta
  3. Enable “Enhanced Search Experience” beta
    1. (optional) Enable enhanced search experience for all users

We encourage you to test all key workflows and report any issues or suggestions in this thread here. Your feedback is crucial in ensuring a smooth and successful release.

What is next

When all sandbox communities have access to the latest search improvements we will get ready to push the changes to your production communities. We will repeat the proces and push the changes to the enhanced search experience beta, this allows you to opt-in and enable the latest search changes on your production community when you see fit.

In the near future, when you’ve had sufficient time to test and enable the new search improvements on your community, we will move the open-beta to general availability and deprecate the old search UI. The exact date and time for this is to be determined.

Thank you for your continued support and collaboration. We look forward to bringing the new improvements to your production communities soon!

Can’t wait!

Thanks for the update!

Will the new experience allow admins to dictate which results types will appear first in the search dropdown? E.g. if we wanted to have the most relevant articles listed first here, then questions, then discussions

The new experience will automatically prioritise the results by relevance - it will no longer group the content by type. As a result content will appear mixed:

Got it, thanks

We have our federated search connected with our Academy. Will this stay the same? By separating the Academy out?

can’t wait to get this implemented!

your academy results will also appear based on relevancy - it will nog longer be separated in its own section ‘Academy’. In the search results page you will still be able to filter on academy results specifically.

In the example below you see that the live-search dropdown will show all relevant results based on relevance - this includes content within the community and external content (in our case from our support documentation). External content is indicated with the ‘open in new tab’ icon:

In the search results page itself I’m able to filter on external content (in our case “Support documentation”)

So, if it is in an external result, does it display this icon?

I do like our academy to be separated out because it lets our users know they will be taken out of the community.

That is correct Hannah. External results will have the icon you highlighted in yellow.

Will the types of content in the search remain the same, ie a Community post or KB article (we federate with Zendesk) or will we also be able to research custom pages or content categories on a specific subject?

the types of content in search will remain the same. We are only pushing content into our search engine, custom pages will not be part of search.

    1. (optional) Enable enhanced search experience for all users

We are aware (and resolving) an issue where clicking on ‘Community’ in the sidebar will add an additional ‘source’ pill on the top.

Happy testing and let us know if you are experiencing any other issues.

What is next:

Once the issue mentioned above have been resolved we will get ready to push the changes to your production environment. We will repeat the process and provide clear timelines, instructions and documentation with you.
